Domaine Machard de Gramont

Domaine Machard de Gramont owns several parcels of Village and Premier Cru Appellations in Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits. It is a family-run winery, established by the father, Arnaud, and two sons, Alban and Alexis.

Their winery is located south of Nuits-Saint-Georges, close to Premeaux-Prissey. Their 20 hectares (50 acres) of vines spread from Chenôve (next to Dijon) in the North, down to Puligny-Montrachet, south of Beaune. The vines are cultivated in limestone soils mixed with different elements. Most of the parcels are actually situated on slanting hillsides; these vineyards were left behind during the wars and the phylloxera crisis. After a long period of restoration, the whole vineyard is today in excellent condition and the estate still keeps old vines, some of them being very old (planted in 1914). The average age of their vines is around 30 years old.

Grapes are exclusively hand-harvested and selected. Both red and white wines are vinified at low temperatures, with natural yeast, in oak barrels. They are then aged for 12 to 16 months in the cellars of the estate. Malolactic fermentation proceeds only after strict analysis, in optimal conditions. When ready, the wines are estate-bottled. A high level of quality enable the wines to be kept for several years before being enjoyed at their best.
